Family group decision making

Kinship families with a social worker, have the right to be involved in important decisions about the children they care for. Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) is a process that brings together family members and others who are important to the child to make plans and decisions in their best interests.

If you are a kinship carer in Stoke-on-Trent, you can ask to take part in a Family Group Conference. This is a meeting where family members come together to talk about what’s best for the child and agree on a plan of support.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council supports this approach and can help you access a Family Group Conference through your social worker. These meetings can be especially helpful in making shared decisions about care arrangements, education, and long-term planning.

For more information about how Family Group Decision Making works and how to request a conference, please speak to your social worker or visit  frg.org.uk/family-group-conferences/what-is-a-family-group-conference/
