Kinship Foster Carers (Formal Kinship Care)
This is a formal kinship arrangement that may be made when the local authority takes the decision to place a child with a family member or close friend of the family. In this situation the family member or friend would undergo a fostering assessment with a dedicated social worker from the fostering assessments team. This process would generally take around 12 weeks. Any prospective carer can expect to receive a high level of support during the assessment, as well as training in preparation for the fostering role.
As a Kinship foster carer there will be tasks the carer will need to undertake including, training, daily logs, and attending meetings. Each kinship carer will be allocated a supervising social worker to support them in this role.
As an approved kinship foster carer with Stoke-On-Trent City Council you can expect to benefit from the following support –
- Financial support
- Dedicated kinship social workers (To offer support, and supervision. They will also offer support around day to day fostering tasks such as daily logs.)
- Community Clusters (Local peer support groups launched to help carers connect and share experiences.)
- Group work offers (Structured sessions to support parenting and emotional wellbeing.)
- Training and development. (Foster carers have access to our internal training catalogue to support continued development. This is also subsidised by free online training available through Kinship.org)
